Dylan on The Ducks: Injuries and transfers could impact Oregon vs. Indiana
EUGENE, Ore. (KTVZ)-- As Oregon gears up for the Peach Bowl, the Ducks are facing mounting roster challenges, losing several key players to both injuries and the transfer portal.
Right now, running backs Jayden Limar, Makhi Hughes, and Jay Harris have all entered the transfer portal. This comes as Oregon’s roster is already short on depth in the backfield.
Adding to the team’s troubles, sources said Jordan Davison has a broken collarbone and will “very likely” not play the rest of the season. Davison, a true freshman, scored 15 touchdowns this year.
Starting running back Noah Whittington spoke about the recent departures and what they mean for the team:
Noah Whittington, Oregon Running Back:
“ I'm the vet. So i'm just proud of seeing my younger guys succeed. They feed off me to, you know, they always say, you get us going like we feed off of you. So, you know, we give, we feed off each other. This is unique, man. This is special. I'm glad I got the opportunity to, you know, share this time with them. Because, you know, a lot of people don't get that. You know, a lot of people don't get freshmen. They get to come in and are ready and are as talented as these guys. I'm just happy that I got the opportunity to share the backfield with them.”
The Ducks are set for a rematch with Indiana, which will already be a major challenge. But with fewer options at running back, Oregon’s offense faces an even tougher test on Friday if they hope to advance to the College Football Playoff Championship Game.
Oregon faces Indiana in the Peach Bowl on Friday at 4:30 p.m. on ESPN.
