Postmaster pauses consolidation plan, but too late for Oregon processing operations shifts, to lawmaker’s chagrin

The US Postmaster General is pausing a program that was moving some Postal Service processing operations - but Oregon lawmakers say it’s too late to help Oregon. In 2023, current Postmaster General Louis DeJoy began a plan to “consolidate” the nation’s postal network. His plan moved processing operations, sending all mail to regional centers. After significant bipartisan backlash, and a noticeable impact on service, the postmaster has announced a pause to their plan. However, Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley says this comes too late for areas like Medford and Eugene, which already shifted mail processing operations to Portland.
