LA Fire: Grassroots volunteer group bringing hope to those who have lost it all in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KTVZ) -- What was simply a call for donations has quickly turned into a full-scale operation for Ian Cunningham, an organizer and volunteer for LA Fire.
Within days of asking for some donations, LA Fire has raised more than $22,000. Those funds are mainly spent on essentials such as baby food, diapers, and tools for cleanup. They've even donated some items to the firefighters working to contain the blazes.
Even though the amount of donations has been overwhelming, Cunningham says certain items are always in demand.
"What we are really seeing is shovels, and brooms and kind of general cleanup supplies," he said.
Cunningham also stressed that the need for clothes is not the priority. For those looking to help, Cunningham recommends donating to trusted organizations on the ground like World Central Kitchen, the Pasadena Humane Society, and the LA Fire Department Relief Fund.
"The way LA has come together is incredible," Cunningham said, "As tragic as this is, I've never been more proud to live in this city."
