Central Oregon shoppers react to Joann’s closing, flock to store for supplies
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- KTVZ went to Joann Fabrics in Bend on Tuesday and saw first-hand how the news of the chain's closure was hitting Central Oregon. Customers told KTVZ News the line stretched around the store to the back of the building; some customers were waiting up to 40 minutes to enter. It was a mixed reaction from shoppers, some angry and some sad.
Jill Groves, a part-time resident of Bend, told KTVZ, "It's horrible. You know I really like Joann's. It's been around as long as I can remember and it's a place that you can go for affordable fabrics, thread, whatever you need for sewing."
Other shoppers expressed their frustrations, saying they don't want to resort to buying supplies online, saying it takes away from the experience of picking and choosing in person. Customers also voiced their concerns about the employees of the store. Although the brick-and-mortar locations will be closing, Joann is still available online.
