Town of Lakeview strips down to fund snow removal
LAKEVIEW, Ore. (KTVZ)-- When the snow piled up and the town’s coffers ran dry, Lakeview residents came up with a creative and bare-all solution to dig themselves out of financial trouble.
After the Lake County Chamber of Commerce had to cut funding for snow removal, some locals decided to pose in a cheeky fundraising calendar featuring well-known community members in various states of undress.
What started as a lighthearted idea quickly snowballed into a national sensation. The calendar gained attention far beyond the small southern Oregon town, even earning a mention on the CBS Evening News.
Organizers say calendars have now sold across the U.S. and even in the United Kingdom and Japan. Their original fundraising goal was $10,000, but so far sales have brought in more than $40,000.
