More snow and ice on roads prompt Central Oregon school, other closures and delays
(Update: Week's delay in COCC film screening for Black History Month)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Another round of snow and ice led to more school closures and delays around the High Desert on Friday morning.
The Sisters and Jefferson County 509J school districts were closed due to road conditions, as was Redmond Proficiency Academy.
The Redmond School District announced it "will be on a 2 hour delay this morning due to inclement weather conditions. If you feel these conditions are unsafe for travel, we respect your decision to keep your students at home for the day. If you choose to keep your student home, please contact your student's school to report their absence. All buses and school start times will be 2 hours later than usual."
The Culver School District also was operating on a two-hour delay schedule and buses were operating on snow routes.
The Madras Senior Center will be closed Friday, with no Meals on Wheels or congregate dining. "Please, use your emergency meals," the facility said.
Friday night's scheduled film screening of “Blend: On Being Black in Bend” at Central Oregon Community College has been moved to Friday, Feb. 23.
The film will be screened in the Bend campus’s Hitchcock Auditorium from 6-8 p.m. as part of the college's Black History Month and Season of Nonviolence of programming. The documentary by Kenny Adams, filmed and edited in Central Oregon, features 10 Black Central Oregonians speaking about their experiences living, working and playing on the High Desert.
