More snow makes for dangerous commute conditions

Happy Wednesday folks, a very active weather pattern continues today through the weekend.  Your commute will be affected by slippery roads and possible wind leading to limited visibility so exercise caution and drive slowly on this snowy morning.

Snow will likely be with us throughout the day with partly cloudy conditions and highs a few degrees cooler than yesterday. Though amounts may taper a bit this afternoon and evening the national weather service expects approximately 2-4 inches every 6 hours until heavy snow begins again on Thursday and continues sporadically until Sunday morning.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 10 am in Central Oregon including Bend, Madras, Prineville, and Redmond due to Heavy snow. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected with winds possibly gusting as high as 35 mph. Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility The heaviest accumulation of snow appears to be occurring in Bend.

Also a Blizzard Warning remains in place along the east slopes of the Cascades and including the cities of La Pine and Sunriver until 4pm Wednesday.  This is due to expected additional snow accumulations of 2-9 inches.  Winds will gust as high as 40mph blowing snow, limiting visibility.  Blizzard conditions are defined as winds in excess of 35mph blowing fallen or falling snow and limiting visibility for a period of 3 hours or more.  Travel should be restricted to emergencies only.

A Winter Storm watch will go into effect late tonight into Sunday morning in the same area due to possible heavy snow with accumulations of 12-40 inches possible and winds as gusting as high as 50 mph.

Winds today will be out of the West and Southwest in the 10-20 mph range  Highs today will range from the upper 20s to upper 30s and overnight lows in the teens and 20s.
