Possible snow showers throughout the day with a mix of clouds and sun
A fine Thursday to you, Central Oregon. Spotty snow showers are possible this morning and throughout the day although the total amount should be light. A chilly morning with snow on the ground in many areas will likely result in slippery roads on your commute this morning so do exercise caution. Expect a mixture of clouds and sunshine as the day progresses.
A Winter Storm Warning is in place along the east slopes of the Cascades and including LaPine and Sunriver until 4am Sunday due to possible snow accumulations of up to 5 feet and gusts as high as 60mph. Travel in the area could be difficult to impossible with extremely reduced visibility and cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero which can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
Also a Winter Storm Warning will go into effect late tonight through Sunday in much of the rest of the area including Central Oregon due to possible heavy snow of 10-20 inches and wind gusts as high as 45 mph. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and make travel dangerous. Hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commutes over the weekend.
A wind advisory is in effect until 7am Friday in North Central Oregon due to west winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected. Winds at these speeds can blow around unsecured objects and break tree limbs which can result in power outages.
Local winds will be active out of the west in 10-20mph range with gusts up to 25 likely in some areas. The Mountains will experience gusts in excess of 50mph.
Highs will be mostly in the 30s with some 40 degree temperatures and overnight lows will be in the 20s and 30s.
