Snow and mixed precipitation likely today
Happy Wednesday Central Oregon! Overnight lows were well below 32 degrees so some areas may have freezing conditions this morning. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler today as low pressure from the central pacific moves toward the region bringing a cool NW flow and wintry weather.
The mountains will get snow and we will likely see some in the lower elevations before temperatures warm up later this morning, when conditions change to a chance for of mix rain and snow. Snow levels rise to around 3500 to 4500 feet by this afternoon but activity appears to continue in the higher elevations going into Thursday.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in Central Oregon until 10am Thursday due to expected wet snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches creating slippery road conditions.
Also a Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 4am Friday along the east slopes of the Cascades including La Pine and Sunriver due to 10-20 inches of possible snow along the crests and in passes with 3-6 inches possible along the lower east slopes. Travel will be affected and it appears the Santiam Pass could be particularly affected.
Calm winds will become northeast around 5-10 mph later this morning. Highs will be in primarily in the 30s and overnight lows in the 20s.
