Rain, snow, and mix continue through the weekend but drier conditions are expected next week
Rain and snow have fallen through the night and into early this morning. Areas south of bend have accumulated some snow, which could make for a difficult commute. Be careful of ice and slush this morning if you’re hitting the roads early.
Showers should clear this morning and we’ll see a mostly dry afternoon, even some breaks in the clouds. Rain and snow return again around dinner time. North of Redmond will see rain while south of Bend will see snow, and a wintry mix falling in-between. Precipitation will continue into the night but, but lighten up as we approach midnight.
There is a Winter Weather Advisory out for a majority of Central Oregon and areas surrounding, including the Cascades. Travel will be especially difficult through the passes and in the higher elevations that have been receiving snow. We’ll see these expire periodically through the night, but travel concerns will linger through the weekend–continue to stay mindful.
Sunriver and La Pine are expected to accumulate between 2-4” of snow but the end of the day. It will be a messy scenario because both rain and snow are falling, off and on, which melts the snow and refreezes it. This is hindering accumulation, but increasing dangerous, icy conditions on the roads. Be careful.
Saturday is similar to today. Chance for a stray shower early in the day, but mostly dry for the first half. Rain and snow will begin again in the late afternoon with the approach of a warm front. After the front passes, snow becomes wet and heavy and switches to more of a wintry mix. It will make for a slick, slushy, and yucky scenario by Sunday morning.
We've seen a lot of rain this last week, with a few more days of it in the forecast. Creeks and streams could rise some, the sides of roads could see some minor flooding, and pooling in yards is possible.
An early mix will fall Sunday and then we are on our way to drier conditions.
Next week starts off dry and cool, temperatures dropping to near normal.
Happy Friday! Have a great weekend and be safe on the roads.
