Starting spring on the wintry side with a mix of rain and snow
Happy spring! This morning, at 2:01am, the Vernal Equinox marked the official transition from winter to spring. From here on out, our daylight hours will be longer than hour nighttime hours. Mother nature, however, has slightly different plans for Central Oregon.
A Winter Storm Warning is active until 11pm tonight for the Cascades, the eastern slopes, and areas south of Bend. I’m tracking the potential for another 8-12” to fall along the Cascades while La Pine, Sunriver, and Sisters will only see 1-3” by the end of the day–likely the lower end of that range. Gusty winds will increase travel difficulties through the passes today. Pack a winter car kit and be careful if planning any travel west.
We’ll see periods of a wintry mix through the day today. Highs will be in the 40s today and winds will gust between 20-25mph making it feel a bit chilly.
Rain and mixed showers continue through Friday, with heavier showers occurring during the second half of the day. There is a chance for the mix to linger into Saturday before we finally clear out.
Although spring starts a bit wintry, we have mild temperatures on the way heading into next week!
Happy Thursday. Have a good day today.
