STAY WEATHER AWARE: Severe storms likely to develop this afternoon, active weather continues Thursday

This afternoon, I am tracking the development of potentially strong and severe storms through Central Oregon. Our region has been placed under a marginal risk for severe storms by the Storm Prediction Center. In these instances, it’s very important to stay weather aware and prepared. The best chances for strong storm development will be in our higher terrains and along the eastern slopes, but everyone has a chance to see storms this afternoon. Timing will be between 2pm and 11pm.

Gusty winds, hail, lightning, and pockets of heavy rain are all a threat today, and something to be prepared for. Winds will gust between 40-50mph, but have the potential to reach upwards of 60mph. Tie down or bring in loose objects. You’ll also want to keep a watchful eye on anything that could be damaged by hail. There is the potential to see larger hail fall, which could do a little damage to your windshield.

The Willamette Valley has a slightly higher chance of seeing severe weather develop. Stronger storms and even the chance for an isolated tornado is possible. Chances for any rotating storms remain low, but not zero.

Showers continue Thursday. Conditions are less favorable for severe weather, but I cannot entirely rule out an isolated storm. Stay alert through the end of the day Thursday, as weather is expected to remain active.

Have a nice Wednesday and stay safe.
