The warm and dry pattern continues today, cooler and wetter this weekend
Little change is expected today. Temperatures will top out in the upper 70s and low 80s this afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Winds will gust around 15-20mph from the northwest, which is calmer than yesterday. Tomorrow, winds will pick back up again, once again enhancing the threat for rapid fire growth.
The Alder Springs Fire started yesterday in Jefferson County and quickly grew to 2500 acres due to gusty winds and dry grass and brush on the ground. The fire jumped the Deschutes yesterday and continues to push east. Firefighting efforts today will be critical, as fire danger is expected to increase tomorrow.
Air quality is reading good this morning but will likely worsen through areas like Redmond, Madras, and Prineville this afternoon. Consider keeping your windows closed today.
The pattern remains consistently warm and dry until Friday when an upper level low drops in and brings much cooler and wetter weather. Friday, temperatures will drop into the 60s and stay cool for the weekend. Rain will return late Friday and linger into Sunday. Saturday looks like the coolest and wettest day, with the chance for highs to stay below 60 across Central Oregon. We’ll continue to monitor this system as we approach the weekend so you can plan ahead.
Have a great Tuesday.
