Local Alert Weather Day due to chance for storms and high fire danger

We’ll see another day of hot temperatures in the 90s. The heat will contribute to storm development this afternoon.

We’ve issued a Local Alert Weather Day today due to the chance for thunderstorms, which might make you consider adjusting some plans. Thunderstorms should begin around 3-5pm tonight, traveling north through the Tri-County area. Deschutes and Crook County have the best chance of seeing a storm.

These storms have a good amount of moisture they can tap into, however, with hot and dry conditions at the surface, we’ll likely see a good portion of that rain evaporating before it hits the ground. Not every thunderstorm will be entirely dry, but dry lightning and gusty outflow winds will enhance fire danger today. A Red Flag Warning is active for Crook County and the eastern portions of Deschutes and Jefferson County from 2-9pm tonight. Look out for any potential new fires.

Temperatures will begin to cool tomorrow and storm chances will move east. Look for highs to top out in the 80s on Wednesday and drop to near normal by the end of the week, in the upper 70s and low 80s.

I’m keeping my eye on July Fourth as some models are forecasting a chance for storms to the east, but it is a near miss of Central Oregon. Right now, we look to remain in the clear.

Have a happy Tuesday and be safe!
