Hot and dry pattern for Central Oregon with increasing fire concerns

KTVZ-TV

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) - Temperatures continue to climb today, reaching the upper 80s and low 90s under mostly sunny skies. Highs will remain well above normal through the weekend and into next week.

Plan on another very warm weekend, with afternoon highs in the upper 80s and low 90s both Saturday and Sunday.

A heat dome is building over the West, locking in the heat and bringing several days of hot weather.

This period of hot, dry weather will increase the risk of rapid wildfire spread if a fire starts. Please follow all burn bans and fire restrictions to help prevent new fires.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows worsening conditions across Central Oregon. The Extreme Drought category has expanded, now including much of Jefferson County and increasing its coverage across Deschutes and Crook counties.

Temperatures will stay in the 90s Monday through Wednesday.

Monday may bring a passing shower, but most areas will stay dry. By Tuesday, a little more moisture could lead to a few isolated storms in the heat of the day.

Have a great Friday and protect yourself from this heat!
