LOCAL ALERT WEATHER DAY: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Central Oregon

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Friday through Saturday morning.

The snowfall amounts that warranted the alert will be through Santiam Pass, where 8 - 10" of snow is expected during that time frame.

The lower elevated locations including Sisters, Sunriver and La Pine will see minimal snowfall, possibly an inch or two.

Travel is still tricky and the main concern is those traveling west through the mountains will need to exercise caution.

Persons should consider delaying all travel.

If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution.

Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing.

Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.

Do not touch downed lines and report any power outages to your electric company. Travel is highly discouraged due to slick roadways and the possibility of downed trees and power lines.
