DCSO: No signs of foul play after remains found near Bend
Grid search conducted; no autopsy planned
(Update: Field searched for evidence; no signs of foul play)
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Nearly 20 Deschutes County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers assisted detectives in a grid search for evidence Friday of a field northeast of Bend where a woman’s remains were found, as investigators said they’ve found no signs foul play was involved.
As a result, an autopsy is not planned on the remains found, Thursday afternoon in a field being prepared for tilling in the 21000 block of Butler Market Road, Sgt. William Bailey said.
Detectives are still working to positively identify the remains and locate a next of kin, Bailey added. He said more information would be released as available.
An employee of the property owner found the remains while checking the field, covered with weeds, in preparation for upcoming disc work, Bailey said Thursday night.
Deputies and detectives called to the scene confirmed the decomposed human remains likely belonged to an adult female, the sergeant said.
They worked the rest of the afternoon to document the scene, collect evidence and recover the remains.
