Tawnya Moss of Terrebonne reacts in surprise Saturday to the community's gift of a new home for her family

'I just feel so incredibly loved by people that I don't know'

TERREBONNE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- About 100 members of the Terrebonne community came together in short order to help provide a new home for a family going through some hard times.

And just in time for Christmas, too.

Just over a week ago, Danny Costa went to do some electrical repairs at the home of Tawnya Moss and her two daughters. He couldn’t help but notice the place was not in the best shape.

Costa donated the electrical job for free, but said he could tell the family was on hard times, and he wanted to do more.

So Costa and his family bought a fifth-wheel trailer for the family — and 100 people chipped in to help remodel it.

They gave Moss the new home last Saturday, and it was just as heartwarming and tears-inducing a surprise as all had hoped.

"I mean, Saturday, I could probably say was the best day of my life,” Costa said Tuesday. “Between giving her this trailer and just seeing all the family come in -- everyone was just so full and happy in that moment.

“There were a lot of tears shed. I felt like it was the most successful thing I've ever done. Just being willing to be a vessel and to help someone in need. There's just no greater feeling."

As for Moss, it’s hard for her not to get emotional, when she thinks about what strangers have done for her and her family.

"I keep like, just, keep welling up all the time. I'm just so happy,” she said. “Everybody has just stepped in. Everybody has been so amazing and so perfect. I'm more amazed by just feeling so much love from everybody, than anything. I just feel so incredibly loved by people that I don’t know."

All of the appliances in the home also were donated, while the shelves were fully stocked with food and toiletries.
