‘Needle to Square’: Man and Goat Walk for Africa

KTVZ

A Washington man and his goat are walking from the Space Needle in Seattle to Times Square in New York to raise money for an orphanage in Africa.

“I made the decision on December 12th of 2010. I had just got off touring music, and I looked at the drummer — and I knew I am walking across America,” Steven Wescott said Sunday. “But I didn’t just want to be a guy walking across America. I needed to have a purpose and a reason.”

Steven and his 5-year-old goat, LeeRoy, which he adopted from the New Moon Goat Rescue in Arlington, Wash., started their journey just a few months ago.

The plan is to raise $200,000 for kids at Uzima Outreach and Intervention in Kawangware, Africa.

So far, they have walked about 320 miles, and Sunday they were in Redmond.

Steven’s and LeeRoy’s next big stop will be Boise, where Steven plans to meet up with some of his friends.

No dates are set for when the pair plans to reach Times Square. The only real goal the two have is to raise the $200,000.
