Ochoco search for lost motorist ends happily
An overnight search for a Harrisburg, Ore. woman and two children overdue on a camping trip to the Ochoco National Forest ended Saturday morning when they were found to have arrived safely at their campsite late the previous night.
Around 10:30 p.m. Friday, the Crook County Sheriff’s Office got the report of an overdue motorist/missing person from Bend police, said sheriff’s Sgt. Travis Jurgens.
Initial information was that Michelle Langdon, 34, of Harrisburg, was en route from Bend to the Little Summit Prairie area of the Ochoco forest to go camping, traveling with two children, ages 4 and 6, Jurgens said.
Family members had received a text message around 3 p.m. Friday, indicating Langdon was lost, the sergeant said.
The family made a missing persons report to Bend police, who passed it on to Crook County officials, Jurgens said.
The sheriff’s office activated its Search and Rescue unit, and searchers headed to the area, covering routes that led to Little Summit Prairie, Jurgens said.
Around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, SAR units were informed the women and children had arrived at the camp at Little Summit Prairie late Friday night, and were reported in good condition, Jurgens said.
