Reed Market Road project finally complete
After more than two years of work, Bend’s rebuilt Southeast Reed Market Road will open in both directions from Third to 27th streets on Tuesday afternoon, city officials said .
The city will hold a short ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. to celebrate the project’s completion — which actually is a bit early, officials said. Originally, Reed Market Road was scheduled to open in November.
At an estimated cost of $18.3 million, Reed Market Road is easily the largest andmost complex project in the voter-approved G.O. (general obligation) bond construction program. Work began in the spring of 2013.
The entire corridor was rebuilt and upgraded to two travellanes and left-turn pockets, shoulder/bike lanes and sidewalks separated by a landscaped stormwaterswale.
Major intersections, including 15 th Street and the Burlington Northern railroad crossing, were improved for better traffic flow. Additionally, the American Lane Bridge over the canal that connects Reed Market Road with the American Lane industrial area was rebuilt west of its previous location to provide more separation from the railroad tracks.
