Bend alpaca farm’s animals attacked a second time
A Central Oregon alpaca ranch where two animals were killed by Siberian huskies last year suffered another loss Saturday. Ranch owner Michelle Alexander had to euthanize her alpaca after he was attacked by two boxers. One of those dogs was shot by a neighbor who saw it chasing the alpaca.
“I immediately received a telephone call from a neighbor saying that another of my neighbors had shot a dog in my pasture while it was attacking one of my alpacas,” Alexander recalled Wednesday.
About 10 months ago, a similar incident occurred on the farm with two of her alpacas and a pack of husky-wolf mixes.
The owners of the two boxers are cooperating completely in this unfortunate situation, she said.
“They immediately offered their sympathy and remorse. And of course, they were sad too, because they are dealing with losing one of their dogs and the possibility of losing the second one, too.
“You know, in this case it was livestock — but you don’t know if it might have been small children,’ Alexander said. “I would have preferred that this wouldn’t have happened. So I wish people would keep their dogs under control and not out roaming the neighborhoods.”
