Scientists hope to capture, re-collar wolf OR-7
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Biologists are setting traps in Oregon in hopes of catching a gray wolf and tagging him once again with a GPS tracker.
The Mail Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/2eHr8Qo ) that scientists hope to capture the wolf known as OR-7 or his mate. OR-7 was a young wolf when he was collared in 2011, and his search for a mate and new territory captured the attention of people across the world.
His GPS collar has not worked since summer 2015.
John Stephenson of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says he sets four traps daily near where OR-7 and his Rogue Pack have been photographed by trail cameras in Klamath County.
Stephenson says biologists will need to capture and collar the wolf before it gets much colder. Otherwise, they will have to wait for spring.
