Prineville man admits attacking officer with hammer

A 26-year-old Prineville man who struck a police sergeant on the head at least a dozen times during a March 2015 jewelry store burglary pleaded guilty Monday to three of the 10 charges against him, prosecutors said.

Crook County District Attorney Daina Vitolins said Trevor Trollope entered guilty pleas to first-degree assault, robbery and burglary charges.

Trollope was due to go on trial this week on the longer list of charges, including attempted aggravated murder and attempted murder.

Trollope is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 9:30 a.m., Vitolins said. While the judge has discretion, Vitolins said the stipulated sentence is a 15-year prison term, with no earned or good time and no programs.

Trollope was arrested in the burglary of Terry’s Jewelry in downtown Prineville. Prosecutors said Sgt. Jimmy O’Daniel was responding to the burglar-alarm call when Trollope attacked him with a hammer. A county prosecutor on a ride-along with O’Daniel, Deputy DA Raun Atkinson, was able to help stop the attack and subdue Trollope.

O’Daniel suffered a severe concussion and was released from the hospital the same day he was attacked, but took some time off work to recover.
