Deschutes County Farm Bureau announces expanded scholarship program for 2024
SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) - The Deschutes County Farm Bureau is proud to announce the expansion of its scholarship program for the year 2024. With a commitment to supporting education and fostering the growth of local talent, the Deschutes County Farm Bureau is offering a variety of scholarships to deserving students within the community.
New for this year, the Deschutes County Farm Bureau is excited to introduce Trades Scholarships, in addition to its existing College Scholarships. These scholarships are open to students from families who are voting or supporting members of the Deschutes County Farm Bureau. The program has been expanded to encompass all fields of study, with a preference given to those pursuing agriculture or forestry studies.
"We are thrilled to offer these opportunities to students in our community," said Tom Maddux, a board member of the Deschutes County Farm Bureau. "Education is crucial, and we are committed to supporting the next generation of leaders in agriculture and beyond."
The scholarship program includes a $1,000 Scholarship in each of the three school districts in Deschutes County (Bend-La Pine, Redmond, and Sisters), as well as three $1,500 Scholarships for returning college/trades students and two new Trades Scholarships worth $1,000 each. This brings the total scholarships offered by the Deschutes County Farm Bureau to $9,500.
These scholarships are one-time awards and are not recurring. They will be awarded after high school graduation and made available for fall terms. For returning/trades students, awards will be given after the spring term and available for the subsequent fall term. Any scholarships not utilized by the spring term of the year following their award will be forfeited. Grade transcripts must be submitted with the applications.
"High school and trades students are encouraged to apply for the Returning Student Scholarship after completing their first year of college/school," added Maddux. "Returning and trades students are welcome to reapply for as long as they are in school."
Applications for the scholarships must be received by April 30, 2024, and winners will be selected based on various criteria, including field of study, financial need, accuracy of the application, and a short biography. Checks will be issued directly to the recipient's college or school account.
