Local Alert Weather Day: Mountain snow continues, wintry mix possible overnight across the high desert

KTVZ

Bend, Ore (KTVZ) - A Winter Storm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for the crest of the Cascades as well as the east face, this is slated to expire at 5 am Thursday morning.

A Local Alert Weather Day is in place today and will extend into Thursday morning as a few snow showers may cross the high desert overnight.  The winds have been robust this morning with generally 25 – 35 mph gusts at times. The winds will begin to relax as the day moves along, but the cold air is on the way.

Tonight, there may be some lingering snow showers across the Cascades which may filter across the high desert. This will create some slick roads for you Thursday morning commute. The cold air will be in place as an upper-level low brings down the cold air.

Lows will be in the teens and 20s tonight so make sure to cover any budding plants or tender vegetation to help them get through the cold snap.

Thursday will be mostly sunny by the afternoon, and we will only reach highs in the 40s. The winds will be much less, but still breezy as the low responsible for the cold pattern migrates east.

Friday will begin a pleasant warm up as the mercury in the thermometer rises into the middle to upper 50s under mostly sunny skies. Normal highs for mid-April are around the upper 50s so we will be close to normal.

Saturday continues the warming trend with highs hitting the upper 60s most locations. There should be plenty of sunshine as high pressure develops in the Pacific Northwest.

Sunday will be the day of transition as clouds move in during the day ahead of rain that is slated for Monday.

Please, Stay safe.
