Rash of Car Break-Ins Reported Around Bend
Keep your car doors locked and the valuables out of sight — words of warning from Bend police after a rash of car break-ins over the past few days all over the city.
On Sunday morning, a resident on Summerhill Drive in the Shevlin Crest neighborhood on Bend’s Westside awakened to a car alarm and heard someone running off, said Sgt. Dan Ritchie.
Officers called to the scene found an abandoned bike in the middle of the street. A K-9 also was brought in, but police did not the culprits, only several cars that had been entered by thieves looking for items to steal, Ritchie said.
Other locations hit by car break-ins included Glengarry Place in southeast Bend, the eastside Safeway, Northwest Ninth Street, Northeast 10th Street, Wells Acres Road and Greenwood Avenue.
Quite often, the cars are unlocked, making it to easy for the culprits, but some windows have been smashed to get to pricey items they could see, Ritchie said.
