It’s called “Chair-ity for Children.”

Local community and student artists creatively paint wooden chairs for silent auction during the month of April. The event is ponsored by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Central Oregon.

The women’s group donates the proceeds to Sparrow Clubs. Sparrow Clubs are clubs that kids form in schools to do different fundraising projects to assist kids with serious medical needs.

This year, their seventh, 22 chairs have been painted and designed by local artists, student artists and local club women.

“The chairs, they are always fabulous. but I think each year the artists have gotten more excited about creating,” said Maria Anderson, chairwoman of GFWC of Central Oregon. “The public they really start looking for the chairs. We get a lot of questions: ‘When’s the Art Beat?’ ‘When’s the charity event happening? It just gets better and better every year.”

The event is the biggest project of the year for the club.

Bidding starts at $50 and is awarded to the winning bidders. The bids start now through April 30th.
