Several Car Tires Slashed in NE Bend

Several northeast Bend residents are wondering just who is behind several car tires being slashed in recent days, all in one neighborhood.

The latest incident occurred on Friday night, but the slashings have been going on all during the week.

Neighbors we talked to Sunday say at least seven vehicles have been hit by the slashings, all on one stretch of road, NE Marsh Orchid Drive.

While some vehicles had just one tire slashed, for Randy Mackey, he had three of his four tires flattened.

Mackey said he noticed his car tires had been slashed after returning home around 5 p.m. on Monday.

Neighbors aren’t sure on exactly what time of day they’re occurring. Some say they’ve noticed their car’s tires slashed during the day, while others were at night.

And neighbors have no idea just who is behind it.

“It would be nice to be able to find who did it,” Mackey said. “And if they’re kids that are on their own then, maybe if the parents get penalized for it, it would keep a closer eye on them.”

“I was shocked — I thought, ‘Well, maybe they just let the air out,'” he said. “I tried to fill it up, and you could feel the air coming out of the side walls, so you know that they got slashed.”

You can imagine the hassle it is for neighbors. They’ll have to go through the insurance and find some way to get them repaired because you can’t just drive the car to get it fixed.

Mackey says it will cost him $90 per tire. But for others, it will be even more expensive.

Police have filed a report, but so far don’t have any leads for suspects.

Other northeast Bend residents are reporting similar incidents to NewsChannel 21. Mike Davis, who lives on Bobwhite Court, off 18th Street, said his son “heard a group of kids hanging around and hitting rocks and dirt clods with what looked like hockey sticks” back on April 29.

“Next morning, we discovered the slashed tire,” he wrote, and a neighbor found a broken house light around the same time.” Then, last Friday night, “we heard a crash just before midnight, and the rear window on the same truck was smashed out with a rock.” Police responded within 30 minutes but were unable to find the group, who Davis said may have fled through a large undeveloped park nearby.
