Nina Mehlhaf

Nina Mehlhaf can be seen weeknights, anchoring NewsChannel 21 at 5, 6, 10 and 11. In over 10 years experience reporting for newspapers and television, many of her stories have appeared on CNN, FOX News and regional cable networks. Nina has been honored for her reporting by the Oregon Press Women and was awarded Best Breaking News Coverage in 2008 by the Oregon Association of Broadcasters.

Prior to rejoining NewsChannel 21, she spent several years as a reporter and anchor at KTXL Fox40 in Sacramento, California. There, she covered many national news stories such as the two wayward whales that swam all the way to Sacramento from the San Francisco Bay, the Lake Tahoe wildfire that burned over 250 homes, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s time in office, the Oakland bridge collapse and many others. Nina was most often first on the scene to breaking news and was regularly sent to cover the record snowfall in the Sierra.

After that invaluable experience, Nina made a quality of life decision to return to Central Oregon and to NewsChannel 21. It’s where she began her news career as a reporter and anchor in 2002. A journalism graduate of the University of Oregon, Nina was raised in Portland and attended Jesuit High School.

Nina serves on the board of directors for the Bend chapter of “Start Making A Reader Today”, or SMART, a children’s literacy program that pairs volunteers with children who are falling behind. She also volunteers weekly with the non-profit horse rescue facility Equine Outreach Inc. in Bend, to train rescued horses to become adoptable to good, permanent homes.

Nina lives in Bend with her husband, dog Woody and cat Maximus. She’s extremely happy to bring her knowledge and experience back to Central Oregon viewers and hopes to make a difference in your daily choice for local news.
