Volunteers: Big Cog in the PPP Wheel

It takes hundreds of volunteers to put together the US Bank Pole Pedal Paddle every year. Without them, it just wouldn’t be possible.

There are over 200 volunteers this year who have taken care of race preparation all the way from Mt. Bachelor to putting together packets for the nearly 3,000 racers.

From start to finish, preparing for the big day requires the time and effort of volunteers. Many of them have already donated countless hours this week to support the Mt. Bachelor Sports Education Foundation.

“I worked all day Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and probably half day tomorrow,” said “Hollywood,” a 15-year PPP volunteer. “It’s fun, it’s good times!”

Some volunteers have been doing it for years.

“It’s to help my community and to help MBSEF succeed so they can help and sponsor the people that they need to,” said Trisha Frederick, a PPP volunteer.

Pat Popplewell and her daughter Trisha and granddaughter Lisa Frederick have been volunteering for the past six years.

“You start to meet more and more people, so you start to recognize more faces,” said Lisa Frederick. “So you know people from out of country, out of state. You get to meet this huge array of different kinds of people.”

Many volunteers told NewsChannel 21 they can hardly wait for when all their hard work comes together Saturday, and for all of the excitement to come.

The PPP has definitely become a huge community event, and this year will be no different, with 905 teams competing.
