Car Topples Tree in Bend Likely DUII Crash
A Redmond man is under investigation for possible DUII and reckless driving charges after a crash early Saturday near a southeast Bend roundabout, police said.
Shortly before 3 a.m., the Dodge Neon driven by Shawn Anderchuk, 23, was heading west on Bear Creek Road and left the road just after going through the 15th Street roundabout, “went over the sidewalk and hit a juniper tree, knocked the tree down,” said Sgt. John Carlon.
Carlon did not have complete information on the crash but said he believed a female passenger, whom he could not identify was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was unsure if the driver had gone as well.
Police for a time searched for a third occupant of the car but eventually determined only the two had been in it, Carlon added.
Nearby resident Matthew Freeman, awakened by what he thought was a car “doing 100 mph,” got up and went to the scene to check on the occupants. Carlon said it appeared they were speeding, but not that fast.
