Fire destroys shop in Terrebonne

A fire destroyed a shop outbuilding at a Terrebonne home Tuesday evening, causing about $200,000 in damage and leaving the family looking for their lost dog.

Redmond firefighters were called to 9328 NE Fifth Street, east of Highway 97 and west of Smith Rock State Park, and arrived to find the fully-involved outbuilding, with heavy smoke and flames showing, said Deputy Fire Marshal Clara Butler.

Butler noted that neighbors had reported hearing explosions as the fire burned, possibly from acetylene, oxygen or fuel tanks in the shop.

Crooked River Ranch firefighters were called in on mutual aid to help knock down the fire as crews also protected nearby structures, Butler said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Losses were estimated at $50,000 to the building and $150,000 to its contents.

Butler said Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies and Pacific Power also assisted at the scene.
