A Canadian motorcyclist was flown to a Bend hospital with serious injuries Tuesday after his motorcycle struck a deer on Hwy. 26E northeast of Prineville, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and Crook County Fire and Rescue medics responded around 10:20 a.m. to the reported crash, said sheriff’s Sgt. Jim Chapman.

Arriving deputies learned Gordon Campbell, 52, of Alberta, Canada, had struck a deer while riding his 2000 Yamaha Road Star 1600, Chapman said.

An AirLink helicopter flew Campbell to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, where a nursing supervisor said he was listed in serious condition Tuesday night.

Chapman said Campbell was leading a group of riders traveling from Canada and was en route to Baker City in northeast Oregon at the time of the crash.

Speed is not believed to be a factor in the crash, the sergeant added
