The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday it is looking for information that could lead to the owners of an emaciated horse found wandering south of town.
Around 6:45 a.m. on Sunday, the sheriff’s office responded to a report of a wandering horse in the area of milepost 9 on China Hat Road, said Cpl. Neil Mackey.
The horse was extremely thin and appeared to have not had any feed or water for some length of time.
The horse, a quarter horse gelding, was transported to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Livestock Rescue Facility, where it is recovering, Mackey said.
Anyone with information on a possible owner, or with additional information regarding this horse (temporarily named “Maverick” by the Sheriff’s Office) was asked to call the non-emergency Dispatch line at 541-693-6911. Callers should reference DCSO case number 12-147332.
