As Redmond man fights to live, others offer help
A young Redmond man was close to death after a violent car crash, but saved by a good Samaritan. On Saturday, his family and friends put on a fund-raiser and also wanted to thank the men who helped him stay alive.
Timmy Childress, 20, is still listed in critical condition at St. Charles Medical Center-Bend, 10 days after he crashed on Highway 26 north of Prineville.
His car crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming semi truck.
Thankfully, the person driving behind Timmy, Troy McClintock, who is a trauma counselor, had a trauma kit in his car, with a neck brace.
Troy and Childress’s friend, Dale Dalton, were able to put pressure on bleeding points and stabilize him.
The two men “pulled him from the car,” his mother, Pixie Gullickson, said Saturday. “Looking at the car, you can’t believe he could have fit in the car.”
At Saturday’s fund-raiser car wash, the young man’s mother said she’s overwhelmed by all of the support from the community, as her son continues to fight in the hospital.
“I really appreciate it, because I can feel the prayers from people,” said Gullickson. “I would like to thank our pastors and all the churches that are praying, and all the people that have been there and are praying for him.”
The group plans to hold another car wash for Timmy Childress next Saturday at the Redmond Veterinary Clinic.
For anyone who cannot make it, but still wants to donate to his medical fund, people can do so at any Chase Bank branch under his mother’s name, Pixie Gullickson.
