$18 million Reed Market Rd. widening to begin
Bend’s Reed Market Road, from SE Newberry Drive (at the Bend Senior Center) to SE Shadowood Drive, will be closed beginning May 15 for construction as part of the city’s General Obligation Bond transportation construction program.
Detours will be in place on Bear Creek Road and Ferguson Road from 15th Street to 27th Street. Travelers should expect delays or plan alternate routes. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-August.
At an estimated cost of $18.3 million, Reed Market Road is easily the largest and most complex project in the program.
The entire corridor from Third St. to 27th St. is being re-designed and upgraded to three lanes with a median, bike lanes and sidewalks separated by a landscape strip.
Major intersections, such as 15th Street, and the Burlington Northern railroad crossing will be improved for better traffic flow, the city said.
Additionally, the American Lane Bridge over the canal that connects Reed Market with the American Lane Industrial area is being rebuilt west of the current location to provide more separation from the railroad tracks.
In May 2011, Bend voters passed a General Obligation Bond Measure to fund street improvements throughout the city. This allowed the City of Bend to authorize $30 million to upgrade several major street corridors and intersections.
