4-H members show off horses at Redmond fair

Deschutes County 4-H members took over the fairgrounds in Redmond for a four-day fair this weekend.

Four-H is a youth development program that teaches young people life skills in a variety of categories.

You may know the organization for the animals the students showcase at the county fairs.

About 120 youth from the 4th to 12th grades showed off what they’ve learned throughout the previous year.

Four-H member Kelly Rheault said she joined the club to learn how to train her golden retrievers.

“Starting in dog really taught me a lot of leadership,” Rheault said. “And I’m actually in teen staff and on executive council. I’m a treasurer in both of those clubs. I’m also a member of the grievance committee, so I’ve found I really love the leadership role, and I love helping younger kids.”

Rheault will be a senior this year, and she says she wants to get a bachelor’s degree in business management and start her own business.

She credits 4-H to helping her get on that path.
