A Salem father and son were seriously injured Tuesday evening in a rollover crash of their car near Crane Prairie Resort that led to DUII and other charges against the son, who was driving, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies and La Pine Fire Department medics were dispatched around 7:40 p.m. to the single-vehicle crash on Forest Service Road 4270, said sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Gotchy. The caller said the car had rolled several times, and at least one person was thrown from the car.

An AirLink helicopter dispatched to the scene landed in the resort’s parking lot and took the passenger, Dennis Cavin Morgan, 55, to St. Charles-Bend, while driver Maxwell Levi Morgan, 21, was taken there by La Pine ambulance, Gotchy said.

An investigation found that Maxwell Morgan was driving the white 2001 Honda Civic south from the resort when he failed to negotiate a curve and the car left the road, rolling several times. The passenger was thrown from the car.

Alcohol and speed both were factors in the crash, Gotchy said.

Both men remained in serious condition Wednesday evening at the Bend hospital.

Maxwell Morgan was cited at the hospital on charges of DUII, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another.

A pit bull riding in the car with the men was found running down the road by deputies, and later taken to the animal emergency vet center in Bend for treatment of a leg injury, the sergeant said.
