Hiker finds man’s remains near Prineville
A hiker found human remains Tuesday afternoon on a remote area of a plateau just south of Prineville, police said Wednesday as they indicated that foul play is not suspected.
The discovery was made shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, said Prineville police Capt. Michael Boyd.
Police and Crook County sheriff’s deputies went to the area and located the remains of a male subject, Boyd said. They were recovered with the help of Crook County Search and Rescue, he added.
Boyd said the man, about 55, was found at a “simple campsite” atop the rimrock just south of Crook County High School.
“It appears that the deceased had been at the location for several months,” Boyd said in a news release.
“Although the investigation is ongoing, foul play is not suspected at this time,” he added.
An autopsy is planned this week, the captain said. The remains have been tentatively identified, but more forensic tests will be needed for positive identification.
