Sisters teen cited in rollover crash
A Sisters teen faces reckless driving and reckless endangering charges in connection with the rollover crash of his station wagon while passing another car in the Sisters Industrial Park, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Saturday.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the rollover crash, which occurred on Friday, March 7 th around 3:20 p.m. on Sun Ranch Drive near Camp Polk Road, said sheriff’s Lt. Chad Davis.
An investigation found that Blake Meany, 18, of Sisters, was going about 50 mph – twice the posted speed limit – eastbound on Sun Ranch Drive at the wheel of a 1991 Volvo 290 station wagon when he tried to pass a car ahead of him, driven by a woman he knew, Davis said. Meany had two juvenile males riding with him, and the woman had one juvenile male passenger, the lieutenant added.
At the time Meany tried to pass the woman’s Toyota Matrix, while negotiating a curve, two women were walking their dogs on the road, Davis said. His Volvo left the road during the pass and hit the gravel shoulder, which caused it to slide and eventually roll onto the passenger side.
Sisters-Camp Sherman Rural Fire District medics responded to evaluate those in the two cars, but no one needed transporting, Davis said.
Meany was cited in lieu of custody on one count of reckless driving and six counts of recklessly endangering another person and released at the scene. Davis said the charges involved Meany’s two passengers, the two people in the other car and the two pedestrians he passed.
