RHS trainer attends Youth Sport Safety Summit
Redmond High School head athletic trainer, Cari Wood, attended the National Athletic Trainers’ Association‘s fifth annual Youth Sports Safety Summit held last week in Washington, D.C.
“This was an inspirational and exciting event to attend,” said Cari Wood from Redmond, who was representing Redmond High School and Desert Orthopedics. “Working in the trenches with high school athletes in my community and school, I know the importance of continued research, education and legislation to prevent injury and ensure appropriate care and rehabilitation.”
The event built upon the success of the NATA-founded Youth Sports Safety Alliance and its prior summits. The Alliance, comprising nearly 140 organizations, is committed to prevent catastrophic injury and illness in youth athletes. Wood and fellow trainers were given the opportunity to meet with state legislators on Capitol Hill to discuss the importance of youth sports safety.
“The safety and well-being of our student athletes is our number one priority,” shared Dr. Nicole MacTavish, RHS principal. “I am very proud of the work Ms. Wood is doing to support not only our athletes, but our coaching staff as well. She is a tireless and positive advocate for our kids and we are very lucky to have her leadership here at Redmond High School.”
In 2013, Redmond High School was one of six schools nationally to receive the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Safe Sports School award for its athletic training and sports medicine program.
