Faith Community Nursing (FCN) is the specialized practice of professional nursing focused on holistic health within churches, synagogues and other faith groups. Its focus is on prevention and it emphasizes the spiritual aspects of care. Faith Community Nurses and Health Ministers work to promote health within their local congregations.

A class, Foundations for Faith Community Nursing (parish nurses and health ministers) will be offered at St. Charles Bend the evening of April 29 and all day April 30, May 1 – 3.

This class is an opportunity to learn about parish nursing and health ministry and to gain a better understanding of the spiritual aspects of care. Annette Stixrud, the former executive director of Northwest Parish Nurse Ministries, will teach the course along with many local professionals. Stixrud has taught Foundations in Faith Community Nursing in the United States and Africa. She started health clinics in India and worked with Mother Theresa. This will be an exciting class filled with much practical information to assist the nurse/health minister in beginning a health ministry within his or her faith community.

The fee for the program is $350 including tuition and all materials. Some scholarship dollars are available. Nurses are also encouraged to seek financial support from their congregations.
