First C. Oregon Autism Walk draws over 400

More than 400 people turned out Saturday to take part in the inaugural Central Oregon Autism Walk in Redmond, raising over $10,000 for programs, organizers said.

Organizers said the one-mile walk was a huge success” as the hundreds ate food donated by Subway, Abby’s Legendary Pizza and Hola, plus many gluten-free options.

They also got autism resources information, while the kids were enjoying the bounce houses, Janelly Bean and Elmo — not to mention members of Seron Clan (the Oregon Chapter of the Mandalonian Mercs Costuming Club).

“All monies raised by this event go back into the Central Oregon Community to help families impacted by autism,” Darlene Martin said, offering thanks to organizers Meredith Sieber Skorheim, Jeanette Barbrick and Melissa Romo, as well as “the many volunteers that helped make the day go so well.”
