Tips for year-end car donations
December is the busiest month of the year for car donations, with donors hoping to get rid of an unwanted car and get that tax receipt before the end of the year.
The Center for Car Donations expects to process over 400 donated vehicles this month alone, many of them for local charities here in Central Oregon. There is still time to donate your car and get a 2014 tax receipt.
Since moving their business to Oregon in 2007, Center for Car Donations has raised nearly $100,000 for charities like Bethlehem Inn, Brightside Animal Shelter, KPOV community Radio, Equine Outreach and Abilitree, among others. They have raised over 7.8 million for nonprofits nationwide.
Center for Car Donations president Jacquie Elliot has these tips for getting your car ready to donate:
1) Find the title.
2) Clean out all your belongings, include garage door openers and CD’s in the cd player.
3) Go to centerforcardonation.com to pick a local charity you would like to support.
4) Call 877-411-3662 or donate online.
5) Give the title to the tow truck driver when he comes (you will get an initial receipt.
6) Take the car off your insurance policy.
7) When is sells you’ll get a tax receipt in the amount for which it sold.
8) Feel good about helping your favorite charity.
If you have any questions about donating your vehicle before 2015, call 877-411-3662. The staff at Center for Car Donations will be working overtime to take in donations. As long as you call before December 31, 2014, your car will be processed in this year, even if they are unable to pick it up before January 1 st .
