Three teens who allegedly stole an SUV and ran away from a juvenile facility near Burns over the weekend were arrested late Tuesday by police who surrounded and raided their northeast Bend motel room, officers said.

Police in Bend learned Tuesday the whereabouts of the three who had run away from the Eastern Oregon Academy in Hines, said Sgt. Dan Ritchie.

A 2004 Chevy Suburban stolen from the facility on Sunday was found abandoned in the area of Scalehouse Loop in Bend’s Old Mill District.

The three teens – Mattaeo Chance Kuhn, 18; Matthew Louis Robinson, 19; and a 17-year-old juvenile whose name was not released – were suspects in the car theft, Ritchie said.

Officers investigating the incident learned the three were in a room at the Bend Value Inn at 2346 NE Division Street.

Shortly before 9 p.m., officers went to the motel room and announced their presence, but the suspects refused to come to the door or respond to their orders to leave the room, the sergeant said.

As a result, a search warrant was sought and executed around 10:30 p.m. Ritchie said the three were taken into custody without further incident.

Kuhn and Robinson were lodged at the Deschutes County Jail and the 17-year-old at the county’s juvenile facility.

All were held on car theft charges, while Kuhn and Robinson also were held without bail on out-of-county warrants involving the Oregon Youth Authority, Kuhn for burglary and Robinson for methamphetamine possession, Ritchie said. The younger teen was listed as a missing person-runaway.

According to its Website, Eastern Oregon Academy is a licensed residential treatment facility serving at-risk male youths from across the state and providing behavior rehabilitation services.
