Pioneer Park reopens after windstorm clean-up
Three days after large trees fell in Friday’s windstorm, the Bend Park and Recreation District has reopened Pioneer Park in northwest Bend, officials said.
The park reopened at 3:30 p.m. Monday, said Bend Parks and Rec Marketing Manager Colleen McNally.
“It took crews a while to get the big Ponderosa (pine) that was precariously hanging over the restrooms removed,” she said.
On Friday, Pat Erwert, park services director, urged caution, saying, “During high winds, it is not uncommon for trees and limbs to come down in parks and on trails.”
Erwert noted that it is possible that other parks could close without notice due to weather-caused damage and dangers.
