Sunriver PD warn of common phone scam

KTVZ

A message left on a Sunriver-area resident’s voice mail Tuesday afternoon prompted a police warning about a common telephone scam, threatening enforcement action unless the call was returned.

Officers said the message on the woman’s home answering machine was from a male caller identified himself as “Steve Martin” from the U.S. Treasury, claiming to take enforcement action towards the individual if the call was not returned.

The number he provided was a generic phone number, not belonging to the U.S. Treasury, police said.

Sunriver Police are warning residents of Deschutes County and the Sunriver area of this scam. If you are contacted by Martin or receive a similar call, do not give any sensitive information over the telephone. This, along with other phishing type calls, is a common occurrence.

If you suspect you have been victim of this, or another scam, please contact your local law enforcement agency, officers said.
