Driver arrested after three-car crash north of Bend
A Redmond man was arrested after a three-car crash Wednesday on the Old Bend-Redmond Highway north of Bend that caused minor injuries, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies were dispatched around 3:10 p.m. to the reported crash on the highway at 94 th Street, said Sgt. Aaron Harding. The initial report indicated two vehicles were involved, one that was on its side.
Arriving deputies learned three vehicles were involved in the crash, the first being a 1995 GMC Yukon driven by Charrish Ryder Wellman, 43, of Redmond. The SUV was heading south in that area when it sideswiped a northbound 1991 Buck Century driven by Nena Fawn Finney, 47, of Bend, Harding said.
The Yukon then rear-ended a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by an unidentified juvenile, who had slowed for another car turning onto 94 th Street, the sergeant said. The Yukon then spun around, facing north, and rolled onto its side.
Bend Fire paramedics arrived and treated those with minor injuries at the scene, with none needing transport to the hospital by the agency.
Wellman was arrested at the scene and taken to St. Charles Bend for treatment of medical issues unrelated to the crash, deputies said. He was then taken to the county jail in Bend, facing charges of reckless driving and felony driving with a revoked license. He was held without bail on an out-of-county warrant, jail records showed.
The crash investigation limited traffic on the Old Bend-Redmond Highway to one lane for about an hour. Oregon State Police also responded and assisted at the scene, Harding said.
