Small plane makes rough emergency landing at RDM
A small plane made a rough but safe emergency landing at Redmond Airport Sunday morning after experiencing engine problems, authorities said.
The reported problem with a single-engine plane losing engine power came in around 9:30 a.m. and prompted an alert that brought out Redmond fire and police crews. It was reported to be approaching from the north and five to seven minutes out.
A few minutes later, the plane “kind of landed at an angle to the runway, went through the cinders and stuff and came safely to a halt,” said Redmond fire Battalion Chief Dick Knorr.
The bumpy landing “did collapse the nose gear,” Knorr said, adding that the “propeller clipped the runway when the front wheel collapsed.”
The pilot, alone on board, was unhurt.
“It was a bit dicey, but all turned out well,” Knorr said.
It was the second such alert in three days at Redmond Airport. A twin-engine plane whose pilot reported an engine went out landed without incident Friday morning, according to unconfirmed scanner reports.
